"Our hearts are with the people of San Bernardino – another
American community shattered by horrifying violence," Obama said about the
deadly attack Wednesday by a married couple on a California social services
office.
The FBI said Friday it is officially investigating the shooting
committed by Syed Rizwan Farooq and his Pakistani wife, Tashfeen
Malik, as an act of terrorism, which an Islamic State-affiliated news service
claimed on Saturday was committed by "supporters."
The president's explanations reflect an evolving calculation of
the mass shooting by authorities. On Thursday, Obama had speculated the
shootings might be an example of workplace violence.
The Wednesday shooting left 14 dead and 21 injured. Assailants
Farooq and Tashfeen were murdered hours later in a shootout with police.
