RANCHO MIRAGE: US
President Barack Obama has insisted Vladimir Putin to end air strikes against
Syrian opposition forces, the White House said Sunday.
In a phone call with
Putin Saturday, Obama stressed the need to quickly get benevolent aid to overwhelmed
areas and starting the termination of conflicts across the war-wracked country,
it said.
“In particular, President
Obama highlighted the importance now of Russia playing a constructive role by terminating
its air crusade against moderate opposition forces in Syria”. The call came in
the wake of a cease-fire deal forged Friday by Washington and Moscow that has
been disapproved by the Syrian opposition, which accuses Russia of continuing
bombings of civilian areas. Moscow this week warned against any ground
intervention in Syria, as Ankara mulls a ground assault with Saudi troops while
shelling positions of the Syrian regime and Kurds, whom Moscow supports.
