Sharmeen’s Documentary wins second Oscars Award


CALIFORNIA – Globally known Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s second documentary ‘A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness’ won the Oscar 2016 at the 88th Academy Award Ceremony here in Hollywood on Sunday.


‘A Girl in The River: The Price Of Forgiveness’ is among five films which have been chosen for this year's Academy Award in the Best Documentary- Short Subject category.


In case Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy’s Documentary, that high spot the issue of honor killings in Pakistan, clutches this year’s Oscar, it would be the second Academy Award taken by the filmmaker. Sharmeed Obaid Chinoy holds a rare distinction of being among the nine women film directors in the world to have won Oscars for non-fiction films.

On February 22, Sharmeen’s Oscar nominated documentary was curtained at a program held at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. On the occasion, Prime Nawaz Sharif had said that the government was set to express regulation to put a control on the killings of women in the name of honor.
