Coal Mine Collapses in Orakzai Agency


PESHAWAR: A laborer was killed and many others were trapped when a coal mine collapsed in northwest Pakistan on Saturday. According to private news channel, the coalmine caved in due to heavy rain in Lower Orakzai Agency in country’s tribal belt.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), media wing of the Pakistan army, said in a statement that 27 people have been recovered alive. The ISPR said 100 workers of the army and the Frontier Corps were busy in the rescue procedure.
The statement said five to six more people are believed trapped inside the debris. It said the rescue operation was being carried out with the help of heavy machinery. 
Those retrieved by rescue officials are said to have sustained minor injuries. National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other departments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province are also involved in rescue work besides the Pakistan Army and paramilitary troops.
