After successful PSL, PCB now initiates Pakistan Cup


Lahore: Recently organizing the giant event ‘Pakistan Super League’ Twenty20 Championship in UAE, the Pakistan Cricket Board has now publicized on Monday the plan to conduct a Pakistan Cup Cricket Championship from 19th April to 1st May in Faisalabad.

A PCB narrator said that Pakistan’s 75 top cricketers will be taking part in the Pakistan Cup 2016 – the country’s domestic 50-over championship. The championship will be comprised of teams representing Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, KPK, and Federal Capital.
Punjab will be captained by Shoaib Malik while Atiq uz Zaman and Muatashim Rashid will form the coaching panel for the big event Pakistan Cup.

T20 captain Sarfaraz Ahmed will be leading Sindh, while Tauseef Ahmed and Iqbal Imam will be the part of coaching panel.
Balochistan will be led by Pakistan ODI skipper Azhar Ali while Ijaz Ahmed and Taimoor Azam will join the coaching panel.
Star Batsman Younis Khan will lead KPK while Abdul Rehman and Kabir Khan will form the coaching panel for the Pakistan Cup Championship.
Pakistan Test skipper Misbah Ul Haq will lead the Federal side while Mansoor Rana and Sabih Azhar will form the coaching panel for Federal Team.

The five captains and the coaches will select the teams through a player draft scheduled to take place on Tuesday. Approximately 150 players will be eligible for selection at the draft. And to throw a quality Pakistan Cup championship, each team will be required to pick one regional under-19 cricketer, the narrator from the PCB added.

The PCB has also publicized that the match fee in this tournament would be double as compared to a regular domestic ODI match.

The Pakistan Cup will be second ODI format domestic championship to be organized by PCB this year.
